POV: winter driving in Lofoten, coming from someon POV: winter driving in Lofoten, coming from someone who grew up in a tropical country. Lofoten is a chain of islands above the Arctic Circle, where roads stitch together fishing villages, fjords, and mountains. In winter, daylight is short — the sun rises late, sets early, and everything happens in soft gold and deep blue. Driving here feels calm and intentional. You pass through long tunnels connecting islands, then suddenly emerge into places like Reine and Hamnøy, where red rorbuer sit right on the water. Further along, the road opens to Sakrisøy, quiet, yellow cabins against snow and sea. Some days you continue north toward Henningsvær, a fishing village stretched across bridges, where the football field looks like it’s floating. There’s no rushing the journey. Distances are short, but the views slow you down. You plan around daylight, stop whenever the scenery demands it, and let the road decide the pace.
